Amplify goodbye

Updated: Aug 15

It’s been a special four years serving as President of Amplify.

I started my first term as president of Amplify at the start of the COVID pandemic. Our community was reeling from the murder of George Floyd, the brutally violent attacks on Asian Americans, and anti-muslim sentiment was on the rise. Fast forward to the start of my second term and we have witnessed trans folks’ rights and women’s health care under attack and increasing antisemitic threats and violence. These issues have deeply impacted us all, but throughout these hardships, the Amplify community continues to support each other personally and professionally.

I am so proud of what we have accomplished together. All of us have stepped up—volunteering to lead certification study groups, sharing job opportunities, mentoring each other, and starting our Leadership Academy. I am particularly grateful for our sponsors and accomplices who have steadfastly supported our mission of creating diverse leadership in tech and shared allyship, even when it was not popular to do so.

The new Amplify leadership team is energetic, resilient, and ready to take on what the future brings. As Amplify goes forward and continues to make a difference in the lives of tech professionals everywhere, let’s remember how important it is to support each other in our leadership journeys and ensure that we support and expand this special community by pledging our time, talent, and donations to keep this amazing organization going.

I am grateful and thankful to the Amplify Community; the Board of Directors; the outgoing leadership team, Rachel Hands and Sudha Sunduram; and our new Board President, Jackie Medina.

Now more than ever, let’s continue to “keep on keepin’ on” and support each other as tech professionals and, more importantly, as human beings.

With gratitude,

Makeda W. Keegan

President Emerita
